Stéphanie Yared: Color and Life

Stéphanie Yared is a beautiful soul that I had the fortune to meet, not too long ago. Everything about her is inspiring and colorful, from her outfits, to her hair, and definitely her art work. Her expertise lie in art direction, illustration, and graphic design, and her work is a mix of sketches, collages, digital art, and photography. In a personal description of herself, she sums it up with this quote by Marcel Duchamp, "I have forced myself to contradict myself in order to avoid conforming to my own taste".

Here is a little chat we had...

  • What moved you to start down this path?
   Passion to inspire.
  •  How old were you when you decided this is what you wanted to do?
Since I was a kid, drawing has been my passion.
  • Where do you get your ideas from?
Life, especially the city... Beirut been a great inspiration to me. It is a beautiful contradiction! Beirut is the art of imperfection, also known in Japan as "wabi-sabi". The only thing I can say or quote is, "The death of a beautiful woman, is unquestionably the most poetical topic in the world." -Edgar Allan Poe

  • Is there a main message you’d like to get across through your work?
Everything is possible, goodness is everywhere... Seek it!
  • How would you define your technique?
Simple, transparent... well. stephilsoufness [winks]
  • Do you like working in agencies or do you prefer freelance work?
Agency work is a must for any designer. I used to love it, but now it’s time for me to blossom.

  • How can you describe the products of your work?
Well, there’s no word to describe the products I deliver upon clients' requests. As for my personal work, depending on my mood, it can be an illustration, a piece of collage, or just words. When I work, it’s a state of mind, or simply a statement of happiness, sadness or anger...
  • What is your favorite piece that you’ve created so far?
Femme fatale

  • What/Who is your inspiration?
[giggles] There are so many sources... I can’t say exactly. It can be artists such as Alicia Savage, Andrea Kiss, Chiara Bautista, Marcel Duchamp, Saul Steinberg, Reza Abedini, David Carson, Bill Plymton, Sir John Hegarty, Oleg Oprisco, Karl Lagerfeld... or it can be a fictional character like Don Draper.. I told you, there are many sources. it can be from a book, magazine, paintings, history, politics even! Not too sound cheesy... but also love!

  • Which of your pieces do you feel most represents you as an artist?
The collage, Chaos in the Building, which I created around 10 years ago.

  • What are you currently working on?
My Kneehao series [smiles] Kneehoa is a wordplay: 'Hello' in mandarin Chinese. II Ni Hao is a series of mixed media, based on photographs of my knees and expressing a moment.

  • How do you view the Lebanese art scene?

  1. Good morning how are you?

My name is Emilio, I am a Spanish boy and I live in a town near to Madrid. I am a very interested person in knowing things so different as the culture, the way of life of the inhabitants of our planet, the fauna, the flora, and the landscapes of all the countries of the world etc. in summary, I am a person that enjoys traveling, learning and respecting people's diversity from all over the world.

I would love to travel and meet in person all the aspects above mentioned, but unfortunately as this is very expensive and my purchasing power is quite small, so I devised a way to travel with the imagination in every corner of our planet. A few years ago I started a collection of used stamps because trough them, you can see pictures about fauna, flora, monuments, landscapes etc. from all the countries. As every day is more and more difficult to get stamps, some years ago I started a new collection in order to get traditional letters addressed to me in which my goal was to get at least 1 letter from each country in the world. This modest goal is feasible to reach in the most part of countries, but unfortunately it’s impossible to achieve in other various territories for several reasons, either because they are countries at war, either because they are countries with extreme poverty or because for whatever reason the postal system is not functioning properly.

For all this I would ask you one small favor:
Would you be so kind as to send me a letter by traditional mail from Lebanon? I understand perfectly that you think that your blog is not the appropriate place to ask this, and even, is very probably that you ignore my letter, but I would call your attention to the difficulty involved in getting a letter from that country, and also I don’t know anyone neither where to write in Lebanon in order to increase my collection. a letter for me is like a little souvenir, like if I have had visited that territory with my imagination and at same time, the arrival of the letters from a country is a sign of peace and normality and an original way to promote a country in the world. My postal address is the following one:

    Emilio Fernandez Esteban
Avenida Juan de la Cierva, 44
    28902 Getafe (Madrid)
    Spain

If you wish, you can visit my blog www.cartasenmibuzon.blogspot.com where you can see the pictures of all the letters that I have received from whole World.

Finally I would like to thank the attention given to this letter, and whether you can help me or not, I send my best wishes for peace, health and happiness for you, your family and all your dear beings.

    Yours Sincerely

    Emilio Fernandez
