I'm not impressed, Leila...

Mashrou' Leila posted on their Facebook page, Tuesday September 4th: "we will not be opening for the red hot chili peppers on september 6 in beirut"

So, I love Mashrou' Leila and I've listened to their music, watched them perform, reviewed them, met them, interviewed them, and supported them in general for quite a long time... But I'm no fan of their decision to back out of opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert tonight. They knew what they were getting themselves into when they agreed and heavily advertised and promoted their performance. It's very unprofessional to back out last minute, even if they decided to do so due to threats or "solidarity" with whatever cause. I'm not impressed, Leila...

What do you think?

  1. My comment on their Facebook page:
Denied yourselves the performance of a lifetime in front of the biggest crowd you might ever get at any of your concerts.
We all know what is happening in Palestine is unacceptable but let's face it; not performing today won't free the country nor liberate its people. You have lost big dear. Stop incriminating other bands and making yourselves and many likewise local bands "de3min el 2adiyye el filastiniyye". Do you really think they care about us? No.
Plus, if my memory serves me well, Lebanon was once colonized by France. Can't boycott that country, strange yeah? Can't boycott its artists. But, simply because we are "at war" with Israel, every single human being stepping on their soil is an enemy to us. That is inferior thinking. Grow up guys, and don't think anyone performing at our country or at theirs cares about politics, knows anything about it or simply supports it. They are playing for their fans, promoting their music and having fun. That's what a normal band does and what you should do. You belong to the music field, mind your own business and leave political decisions aside. Enough with Patrick Bruel, Gad El Maleh, Lara Fabian, Placebo and many more.
Lebanon will never live if people like you - with you I'm referring to the pro-people commenting in here - keep up this mentality.
